On the morning of June 27, 2018, the establishment ceremony and opening ceremony of the China Free Trade Port Research Institute was held.
In order to strengthen the research work on Hainan Free Trade Pilot Zone and the establishment of a free trade port, on May 9th, the Hainan provincial government formally approved the establishment of the China Free Trade Port Research Institute, led by the China (Hainan) Reform and Development Research Institute and the China South Sea Research Institute. The hospital, Hainan University, Hainan Normal University and other units participated in the joint construction.
The Free Trade Institute is positioned as a study on the theory and policy of Hainan Free Trade Zone and Free Trade Port. Its main task is to serve Hainan Free Trade Zone and the establishment of free trade ports.

Chi Fulin, Dean of the Free Trade Port Research Institute with Chinese Characteristics, addressed the inaugural meeting. He stated that the goal of the China Free Trade Port Research Institute is to be a research platform, an online platform, and a learning and communication platform. It will focus on conducting research on the theory and policy of Hainan Free Trade Pilot Zone and free trade ports, providing intellectual support to “small institutions”. “The principle of running colleges, large networks, and platforms” has attracted more well-known experts at home and abroad to offer advice and suggestions on the development of Hainan Free Trade Port in various forms.
